Printer Troubleshooting Techniques To Overcome Inkjet Print Head Clogging

If your printer is more than two years old, it is quite possible that you are experiencing nozzle dropouts clogging. This is a common problem with printers having inkjet print heads which are not cleaned on a regular basis.

Quite often, you completely miss doing any sort of cleaning operation simply because your printer did not recommend any cleaning procedure as a part of printer trouble shooting. Just as any other machinery or device, it is critical to carry out maintenance procedures on inkjet printers to prevent clogging of nozzles.

There are three main reasons why inkjet printers nozzle does not fire clearly. They are the capping station pads and the pump, the dampers, and the head. It is necessary to replace the dampers and wipers every two years to ensure your printer delivers peak output every time. It is better if you get the capping station and the flushing box replaced after every three to four years. This will ensure that printer repair works will not come up frequently.

To get peak performance from your printer ink cartridges, dampers must be replaced once every two years. The head rests and gets cleaned on the capping station. It has a foam pad and a tube leading from the capping pad to a pump. The pigment ink is drawn from the head through the foam pad in an inkjet printer.

When the printer remains unused for a while, the ink on the pad dries up causing the nozzle to dry as well. The chemicals in the printer ink cartridges contain resin which gets converted into plastic when they are dry. This solidified ink does not dissolve nor can it be broken up, leading to clogging of nozzle and poor performance of your laser toner cartridges.

The damper has a filter to trap particles that can potentially clog the nozzle. Over a period of time, particle buildup occurs which prevents the free flow of ink to the nozzle causing the blockage. Solvents such as alcohol can help in dissolving the particle build up and restoring the free flow of ink to the nozzle of your ink cartridges.

Sometimes the built-in cleaning utility itself can set the problem right. You can print two or more test pages with black and then each of the other colors before running another cleaning cycle. If your printer ink cartridges were not idle for a long time, just printing the test pages can set the problem right.

If not, you can try removing the printer ink cartridges and the print head from their frame and soaking them in hot water gently. Experts suggest leaving them in water overnight so that all the impurities and particles are removed completely from the ink cartridges. They must be then dried thoroughly before installation. This process also works successfully for many printers.

  1. The model is visually quite nice in its textured and high-gloss black case. It is around the normal width for any personal inkjet machine, yet is definitely less deep compared to many. Nonetheless, when you flip down the paper tray and extend the swing-out paper rest, which creates the output tray, it expands the machine's footprint significantly. This tray set up sticks out on the front of the machine by more than the length of an A4 sheet.
