To become the embodiment of jolly old St. Nick, CompAndSave.com, a leading provider of printer supplies, will offer its customers a chance to win 12 different gifts, worth $8,500, with no purchase necessary during a Twelve Days of Christmas Giveaway.

Starting Dec. 16th- Dec. 31st, CompAndSave.com will host a 12 Days of  Christmas Giveaway in reference to the 12 Days-of-Christmas carol. A winner will be drafted amongst those who enter the giveaway, and that winner will receive an expensive gift from CompAndSave.com.

12 Days of Christmas Giveaway

Customers who enter the contest on one of these dates will have a chance to win some of the most popular gift items on the market, which includes a 1/2 CT diamond ring, valued at $1,400, on Dec. 20th, a 16GB iPad Air on Dec.25th, a 50" LG 1080p Plasma TV on Dec. 31st, and much more.

“This is the biggest and most expensive giveaway we’ve ever had,” said a spokesperson for the company. “Our goal is to not only remain the leading provider of quality printer accessories, but to also surpass that objective and reward those who helped us get here, our customers.”

In the spirit of giving, CompAndSave.com will use a legion of different channels to broadcast this extravagant giveaway, which includes online channels, such as e-mail, social media, blog posts, YouTube and online magazines, as well as newsletters, T.V. ads, direct mail, and mobile applications meant to remind customers of what prize will be given and on what day.

“We want everyone to have the opportunity to get a free gift,” said the spokesperson. “Whether you’re a returning customer or a new customer, you will have the opportunity to enter the giveaway and win a prize for that specific day.”

CompAndSave.com will randomly choose a winner from a list of customers who entered to win a gift during that day, whether you make a purchase or not.

With the slogan “MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME,” CompAndSave.com will underline how much they love their customers, for the entire month of December, and deem itself the corporate equivalent of Kris Kringle, by delivering gifts to customers all over North America.

CompAndSave.com sells compatible and re-manufactured ink & toner cartridges costing up to 80% less than the genuine brand. The cost of buying an inexpensive ink or toner cartridge in order to enter your name into the raffle pot is nominal and is nowhere near the value of the gifts.

“We want our customers to know how much we appreciate their support,” said Andrew Yeung, President of CompAndSave.com. “Without them we wouldn’t have grown so much in recent years. This is our way of saying thank you.”

For most home requirements an inkjet printer works well; but with a plethora of options out there, how do you go about choosing the best inkjet printer for your home? Before going into specific brand and model recommendations, go through the following checklist to help narrow down your choices:

Best Inkjet Printer for Home
  • What do you need a printer for? Is it for printing letters, bills, receipts and so on? Do you also want to be able to print photographs, greeting cards and help create children’s projects?
  • So will you need a color printer or will a black and white printer suffice?
  • Do you need a printer with a memory card reader (required if you want to be able to print a lot of pictures directly from memory cards)?
  • Will you need very high quality printing? If so, you will want to examine the possibility of getting a high end printer with higher resolution.
  • Do you need a fast, heavy duty printer – as in do you envisage having to do a lot of printing on a daily basis, or will your requirement be occasional; easily met by a cheaper, compact printer?
  • Will you need a printer with a built in scanner (the scanner can also double as a photocopier) and a built in fax machine?
  • Does it make sense for you to get a wireless printer?
  • What is your budget? When considering this factor you also need to look at the running costs of a printer – the prices of printer ink is also something to consider.
  • Do you need a printer with a display? This can be simpler to understand than a bunch of blinking LED lights.
Once you have narrowed down your choice by looking at all of these factors, consider the following printers recommended by experts:

Canon Pixma MX922 Wireless Office All-In-One Printer – This is an economically priced all-in-one printer that copies, faxes, pints, scans and even prints on discs. It has an auto document and is Wi-Fi enabled. However, this is not a very fast printer so it may not be suitable for high volume printing.

Epson WorkForce WF-3520 – This is another reasonably priced all in one printer that also does duplex (double sided) printing. It can also print via cloud. However, if you need the output quality to be very high this may not be the best choice.

Brother Printer Work Smart MFCJ870DW Wireless Color Inkjet – This again is an all-in-one printer with scanner, copier and fax and has low operating costs.

Epson Expression Home XP-410 – This is a compact small all-in-one wireless inkjet printer that has affordable replacement cartridges (lets you replace the color you need instead of having to replace all the colors). This versatile printer is a bestselling Epson product.

HP Deskjet 1000 Printer – If your budget is tight, this basic, no frills color printer from HP may do you quite well.

The recommendations above not only have all the requirements for being a dependable home printer, but each has their own unique feature. Choosing either one will depend on your personal needs and preferences.

We have all been there, we are in the middle of printing out something important when all of the sudden there is a paper jam. I think we can all agree that paper jams are the worst. The good news is that paper jams can be avoided.  Most paper jams are either caused by lack of machine maintenance or poor use and storage of paper.

Paper Precautions

If you work in an office setting chances are you order printer paper in bulk. Printer paper should be stored in a cool and dry place. Humidity causes pages to stick together and jam when loaded into the machine for a print job. Also try to avoid mixing different brands and types of paper together. Although it is hard especially when you get to the end of a package of paper but, different companies manufacture paper differently and those slight differences are enough to throw off your printer mid printing process.

Before feeding your paper onto your printers paper tray make sure that the tray is aligned properly for the size of your paper. Most printers have adjustable printer trays making it possible to print on a variety of paper sizes. If the tray is not adjusted properly your paper can feed crooked leading to a paper jam. Also do not over load your paper tray, try only loading enough paper onto the tray as needed for the current job. It will also help if you take a second to loosen the sheets before loading them into your printer. Shuffle them around to make sure none of the pages are stuck together.

Machine Maintenance

Keeping your printer clean by conducting regular maintenance will help to keep your paper jams to a minimum. Try to get into the practice of weekly cleansing. Residue from ink and toner can accumulate inside of your printer not only causing jams but also reducing the quality of your print jobs. Use a soft brush to gently wipe the inside of your printer to eliminate dust and residue build up. After a paper jam occurs it is a good idea to open your printer lid and inspect the inside of your printer. You will want to look for tiny pieces of paper stuck inside of your printer as a result of the jam. If these pieces are not removed they will cause future paper jams.

If you don’t use your printer weekly or even daily it is a good rule of thumb to print something for the sake of keeping your toner running. This not only keeps the toner from becoming dry and causing jams, but also will ensure that when you do print a document it will be of the highest quality.

When a paper jam does occur make a note of it. Pay attention to how big the print job was, what type and brand of paper was being used as well as the papers size. Over time you might be able to notice a pattern and realize and underlying issue causing the jams.

Do you have any questions about printer maintenance? Need more advice on how to avoid paper jams? Ask us in the comments below we would be glad to answer your questions!

Celebrated all over the US, Thanksgiving is considered one of America’s favorite holidays. Different areas in the United States have their own way of celebrating Thanksgiving, and families also tend to have their own traditional dishes they like to prepare. No matter how you celebrate or who you celebrate with, one thing remains the same for every household; Thanksgiving is a time to chow down. But that’s the easy part. The difficult part is preparing the feast while watching out for those little hands stretching to get every little bit of delicious nibble they can get their hands on. How do you keep those little hands busy?

Keep them occupied with these fun and creative printable dinner placemats and origami designs, while you prepare a tasty meal.

All you need is:
Thanksgiving Turkey Origami

  • A working printer (with a good amount of ink)
  • Printer Paper (sizes A2 and A4)
  • Glue (kid friendly)
  • Scissors (kid friendly)
  • Coloring materials (crayons, markers, colored pencils, paint, etc.)
  • Children ready to have some fun
  • Someone willing to print out the placemats, as well as the origami designs and receive a whole lot of smiles and hugs in return

Now you’re ready to download the placemats and origami turkey images:

  • Click on the link below to “DOWNLOAD” the placemats and origami designs with the  instructions (this will open a PDF file version)
  • Click “PRINT” to print out the images in your desired size (make sure to print out a substantial amount for everyone and remember that the placemats should be double sided)
  • Once everything is downloaded, printed out and passed around, it’s time to get creative… and very colorful!

We know that kids have big imaginations. We sometimes forget just how much joy and creative fire they can muster. A Thanksgiving themed origami and coloring exercise is a great way to ignite their creative fuel and make good use of your printer and ink cartridges. What fun and unique images will they create?
After they are done coloring their placemats, make sure to set them on the area where they will be sitting for dinner in order to reserve their spot. When everyone is finished recuperating from a full stomach, enjoy some great puzzles and games on the reverse side of the placemats or take the time to form more origami turkeys.

The CompAndSave family puts great emphasis on togetherness and giving thanks for what you have. Remember to keep those the origamis and placemats as a memory of the enjoyable and happy time you shared with your family.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Looking for a new hobby? Check out Papercraft. This is hobby great for children and adults. It allows you to be creative, practice hand eye coordination and use your printer!

Papercraft is the art of taking paper and using it to create three dimensional objects.  A pattern is printed from your home printer onto printer paper. It is advised that you use a heavy paper such as card stock when printing out your patterns.

After your pattern is printed, use crayons, markers or paint to decorate your project as needed. Some patterns can be printed in color and others are black and white leaving the coloring up to you. If using paint or markers allow your pattern enough time to dry before moving on with the project.

Following the pattern you then proceed to cut out your object. Children are advised to use scissors when cutting out their project, but if you are able to handle using an exacto knife do so. Using an exacto knife will allow you to get a cleaner cut, improving your final outcome.

After the pattern is cut out, apply glue to the glue tabs one at a time and fold your pattern to create a shape glue as you go. The pattern will indicate where you should start this process. If it doesn’t, practice before gluing by using a lightweight tape to hold the object together. Papercraft is unlike the well known practice of Origami which usually only involves folding paper to create and object. It is rare that glue is involved in Origami.

We have a lot of awesome deals going on at CompandSave and at times it seems tempting and practical to stock up on ink cartridges in advance. But, you question if it is a good idea to store unused cartridges for a long period of time. Good news, we give you the green light to go ahead and buy cartridges in advance!

However, we want you to know how to store and care for your extra cartridges to ensure that when you go to use them they work and do not cause damage to your printer.

If possible do not remove cartridges from their original packaging. This packaging is designed to protect your cartridges and is the best possible way to store them. If you need to remove them from the packaging for any reason or if the seal on the package is broken, find something else to store them in. Do not leave cartridges sit around unprotected.

Do not store ink cartridges in a place that is extremely warm and keep them out of direct sunlight. Warm temperatures may increase the pressure inside the ink cartridge which causes the ink to expand and eventually leak. As a precaution never store inks of different colors together– if one leaks, you can lose both cartridges. Ideally, you want to store ink in an environment that is between 40-80 degrees Fahrenheit.  If you live in an environment that causes room temperatures to be really high you can store your cartridges in the refrigerator inside a sealed Ziploc bag. Another way to prevent leaks is to store cartridges with the print head facing upwards.

If you follow the instructions above buying cartridges in advance should not be an issue. If you have any questions about cartridges you purchase through CompandSave please call our customer service center. Our agents are happy to advise you on how to care for your cartridges and answer any questions you may have.
